I am a big fan of public schools. I am not a supporter of charter schools. Properly funded and staffed public schools are the best way for all students to receive proper education.
I do think we need to expand vocational/technical training at high schools in a large way. There are many career paths besides college that pay well, these should be offered in all schools across the state.
I’m a Snohomish County Trade Up Volunteer. In coordination with the SnoCo Labor council and multiple unions, we go to high schools with volunteer union members and their trade equipment or simulators and show teenagers what kinds of careers are available in trades, what we do, and how to get jobs in them. Programs like these should be expanded and required for ALL students.
